Why do we always get distracted? At least I know I do. Is it because we have the world at our fingertips? Is it the fact that we spend most of our given time on the internet? Or some form of the device? Maybe sometimes it's our turn away for awkward silence when. Whatever it may be, we know that a device is always there to recuse the day, but have we ever considered the fact of how distracting it really is? I mean really, how can we help it? When we go on a device we see a different thing pop up at us every second, a news update we’re like a moth to the light. Everything is easy to access at your fingertips, right when you go onto any device it gives you so many options. The internet is your oyster!
Although the internet is one of the most comprehensive sources of information ever I swear it’s created to be one of the biggest distractions known to man. And quite frankly, I agree. As often as I tell myself I can multitask or juggle something, I know that I often find myself getting lost between multiple tabs wondering how I ended up on a page that is so irrelevant to the topic! This got me to think…Why in the world did our school decide to fund us with Chromebooks then?? Of course, the school boards intentions for Chromebooks were obvious to be beneficial to the students. To give us the intent for learning, accessing information, to eliminate the use of paper and to use our resources to our advantages! But when you think about it, is it really helping at all? Sure, a device helps you minimise and maximise between thoughts, but we often forget how we’re already a generation that is distracted enough. The blog also states teens, in particular, are more distracted than ever. 2,400 teachers found that educators feel students are more distracted than previous generations. 87 percent of teachers agreed with the statement, and have stated that it is creating kids to have a shorter attention span. The Globe and Mail state that in 2015, Microsoft Canada published a report indicating that the average human attention span had shrunk from 12 to eight seconds between 2000 and 2013. In fact when we play games on our phone or on a social media platform, once we achieve small goals it's causing our brain to be rewarded with little bursts of dopamine, and later were rewarded with new content creating a “compulsion loop”- which is basically the same loop responsible for the behaviours associated with nicotine. Our brains are hard-wired to make us novelty seeking and this is why apps on our phones are designed to constantly provide us with new content, making them hard to put down. The use Chromebook seems as if we aren't even learning at all. Students often learn better by directly writing on paper rather than typing it out, at least I know I do! Whatever you’re learning style may be, I guess its a well-known fact that devices make us more distracted. Whether that's on your Chromebook or having your phone next to you, keep it away because odds are you're not going to focus!

I was in a wheelchair going to Costco because it was too slippery to use my crutches. As I was in the wheelchair, got so many looks from all around. It felt like the world's eyes were suddenly on me. People started to treat me differently like I was a toddler on wheels. Like I needed to be depended on someone to go somewhere. I started to wonder, do all disabled people feel like this? Most people won't need the help while others do, but the ones who don't,don't want to be treated any differently. They don't want to be looked as an alien. Although it is a hard life to live, they must get a lot of looks and stares just because they aren't matching to the rest of the world.
When you're a cripple or when you realize that you are disabled and things aren't going to be the same, it really hits you. That moment where I got home after the surgery, I started to climb the stairs I had so much confidence I could do anything. I have my leg back everything is normal. I got to the stairs and realized that this is going to be a hard thing to do, I put my right foot and then my left and all my confidence were gone. My left leg (the one that the surgery was done on) had no feeling except for pain. How could a tiny everyday task become a fear of mine now? It's hard getting used to not having one leg. We take so many things for granted and we forget how much we have and what helps us and when we loose it we forget it how lost we can become. For me, that was for the left leg. For others, it could be both of their legs and their story each story is different. Being on crutches and a wheelchair was hard. I only had to be on them for 4 weeks while (crutches for 4 and wheelchair for a couple days), others have to use them for a life have the struggle I had for four weeks for the rest of their lives. I wonder how it must feel and how long it took them to really get the hang of their life changing, and adapting to the world while most don't have any kind of struggle. So the struggle is ten times harder because they are so restricted. Imagine what life would be like in a wheelchair for a day? Bob Borson ( http://www.lifeofanarchitect.com/my-day-in-a-wheelchair/) tried to maneuver with a wheelchair for a day and only scratched the surface on how hard it is. He describes how his day was and how everyday acts were changed and he was treated differently but all in all, it was something that was quite a challenge. As a cripple, you get a lot of looks and people treating you differently let alone it's hard to cope with the lifestyle you have to live with well only for 4 weeks for me, but for others, it's a lifetime. I say we should respect what they've been through, but not treat them differently they are still people. Whatever it may be, they didn't choose the harder way in life everyone struggles to live certain ways and we have to respect it because we don't know what kind of struggle one has been through. It's hard out there without legs or one leg so don't take it for granted, use them you have them for a reason don't you? Why do we always want new? We catch ourselves buying new clothes, toys, electronics anything, year after year. There's always something new out on the market, why does that mean we have to strive for it every time? I mean doesn't the phone you already have work fine? I guess there is a slight change in the new product, But in reality, do you really care that it's new? Or are you only buying it because you're a consumer and the media hyped it up for you? Do you really need something new each year? Is It really a NEED and not just a want? Why are we buying new things on the market that really isn't worth it? I myself think when one is repeatedly getting new things is a waste.
Maybe the reason we always buy more is because the product we invest in the first place requires other attachments. Buy a new dress? You need earrings to go with it! Oh, and don't forget shoes that match. As humans, we always think of excelling and always adding more, but maybe in most cases it's unnecessary. We rarely look at downgrading heck, we look down upon it. Our minds are attracted to new things such as new friends, new countries, new tablet etc. We are so unconscious about it and never think twice. Of course, this makes a lot of sense, we wouldn’t get much done if ordinary things captivated us constantly. Although change does seem nice from time to time, it might be a bit unnecessary for most parts. A few ways to help you from always buying new things could be unsubscribing from some stores. As most of them do spam you and persuade you to buy their unneeded items, you can unsubscribe anytime. Another way you could prevent getting new thing could be to lay off off shopping for a month and think of your essential needs instead of wants. I hope the next time you're about to buy something I want you to think “ is this a treat to myself?” Do I really need this “? "Does whatever I have already work fine’? Don't just buy something new on the market because it is so hyped up, buy it because it is beneficial to you! At the end of the day, you and I are the consumers so we should think a little more about what we're buying. Unless there shoes of course! Why do people hate it so much when others wear makeup. I mean it's not all, but you get what I'm saying. Most people are always saying “I like girls with no makeup”. Do they really? Yeah, sure everyone is pretty without it and all, but at the end of the day isn't it their choice? I hate when others say that, are you trying to be nice? If we all claim to be individuals isn't makeup taking part in that, letting us be different. Makeup does not only let us be different but make us feel confident, empowering and stronger. People often look at others who wear make and say, "oh she's wearing makeup you know what that means she's insecure”. How is taking pride in your appearance and enhancing what you have, have to do with being insecure? Although makeup does help many with insecurities, but for most, that's not the case. Makeup is empowering, it lets whoever embrace who they are. It not only allows to intensify and focus on the things we are proud of also, enables us to mask the parts we're not so comfortable with. Many girls wear makeup as a confidence booster, it's not they don't like what god or whomever or whatever you believe in has given them. It simply enhances what they have and makes them feel better about themselves. Some girls don't step without unless they are wearing makeup, because it makes them feel like they are presenting a slightly better version of themselves. When I get ready in the morning and decide to wear makeup I do it for me not to impress anyone just for myself, because when I wear it I feel like I'm more confident. Makeup makes some of us feel pretty and empowering. It's also a way where we can just take time appreciating ourselves and taking the time to really focus on us. The reason for why I think it's so empowering is because most people have flaws they're not so proud of. They feel like they can't show the world their face mostly because society reacts to anything that doesn't look "beautiful". Most people find confidence or feel pretty when they have cosmetics and it allows them to go outside and not feel ashamed. Makeup encourages people to be happy and dominate the world. Yes, I know sometimes makeup is not what everyone likes, but sometimes that pop of red lipstick or that perfect winged eyeliner really makes people feel like themselves and it lets them express them. I guess it's kind of like clothing for your face. Next time you're going to ask someone "why do you wear so much make-up think"? Think of all the reasons why they are. Let them wear makeup or not they have their own mind and can be the judge of it. Wing your eyeliner, wear lipstick, get that mascara on, put some contour or even a bare face whatever it is who cares. As long as you feel confident and happy. I don't think makeup is there to trick others it's there to simply enhance and make people feel good about themselves after all isn't that what life's all about??? Women learn how to wear makeup resulting in making them feel more confident and empowering with them self's. Hey. Hello, greetings and salutations. Not one, but many ways you can say hello. Hello. Hello is kind of associated with a wake-up call or greeting as most will use it. Wake up call. Wake up calls are usually for when people need to get their crap together and start doing what they're supposed to or “go on the right track”.
A wake-up call associates to waking up. Waking up is something I despise. Sunshine upright in the morning right at 6am, oh the horror. You're probably thinking “does it matter you're just waking up, a task that is so easy to do”. Simply Open your eyes. Get up and voila you're done waking up. No sir or mam or whoever is reading this, no it really isn't that easy. Well, you see well not really you see actually let's put it like this, let's pretend hypothetically you're in deep sleep and probably dreaming, you don't want anyone or anything to wake you up right? Well it's not that easy because everyone has something to do somewhere to go and the world still has to spin and 365 still has to go by. That means you HAVE to wake up and start doing stuff. I'm that person that doesn't mind doing stuff. Oh no, I absolutely love getting down to work and doing what I must, the thing I hate is before the whole jazz. You're probably thinking “what is the whole jazz”. The whole jazz in my case is waking up as I talked about earlier. I hate the fact that I have to open my eyes. My dream is over back to real life. I despise the time when my alarm goes off, I do not open my eyes I realize that I have to open my eyes cause I have no choice and reality hits. So I allow my body to soak in that today is a new day, not like yesterday. This day will not be like yesterday's or any other day. Yes, I know sometimes people's days are like any other, but there's always that small difference each day. Anyway, I don't like the part where I have to open my eyes and getting my body to function again. I've tried looking at many sites and videos and seeing if there was a way for me to not hate waking up as much or to find it easier (http://www.chriswinfield.com/waking-up-early-secrets/) here's one of many that I thought helped. The blog suggests getting your clothes ready for the next day, which I already do. Also, to put your alarm clock across the room. That still hasn't gotten me wake up. The blog also suggests to think about the benefits and to “set yourself to sleep”. The blogs idea was great and it did help, but waking up and mornings it still a downer for me.I mean the blog helped with the whole aspect of actually liking mornings in general, but in my case, I still hate opening my eyes actually waking. Maybe I like dreaming so much and not living in reality and that's why I hate opening my eyes? Maybe I'm just crazy. Whatever it is mornings do truly suck, so keep dreaming. What defines you as Basic or a Basic B**** as some people might say. Basic, that word gets so thrown around these days just because you're sipping on your pumpkin spice latte( if it is even the season otherwise any other Starbucks drink). But question is why do we call people basic? Is it just cause some are more alike than others? Everyone is basic unfortunately, but it's not necessarily a bad thing and no one should be ashamed about it. Urban Dictionary defines basic as "someone devoid of defining characteristics that might make a person interesting, extraordinary, or just simply worth devoting time or attention to." Just because you're basic does it make you less extraordinary that you like the same things as most people. The fact that you like popular things (I myself like a lot of popular thing), but does that make me a less interesting person and not worth your attention? I certainly am! Of course i like some things that are mainstream and that are pretty common, but doesn't everyone? Basic style. One may wear their favourite outfit and all of a that hipster in the class calls you a basic. Suddenly basic,is the chicest put down and all of a sudden you start to question why they even called you basic. Maybe it's because of your plain white tee shirt, blue pants and converse? Whatever you’re wearing, it shouldn't matter if anyone called you basic embrace don't disgrace. Liking something that's mainstream doesn't make you lame. Wear what you want who cares if people think if it's basic, you wear what you feel confident in. Technically everyone is basic. So many people say “oh I hate when everyone gets the same clothes as me” and yes I am one of those people who look for something very unique ,but you don't see me going to McDonald's and getting something different every time I go there? I guess there's different ways people are basic and I guess i'm just food basic like most of the world and probably you are too. Anyways, about this whole basic thing i just feel like it's unnecessary to label someone. All in all I guess i'm just saying who cares if your basic, do what you want and don't be ashamed whether you are basic and if you aren't well that's cool too. Who cares if you like going to Starbucks/ Tim Hortans a lot or shop at american eagle or even order the same goddamn burger everyday. You do you and do the best cause no one else can do a better you cheesy I know but I had to because i'm a tad bit basic. Here take this buzzfeed quiz and lets see how basic you are. |
